Did you purchase a Pentair Water Pool and Spa pool heater in December 2020 or January 2021? If so, you should know: Pentair has recalled about 4,700 pool heaters due to a manufacturing issue that poses a fire hazard.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, a connection in the pool heaters may leak a combustible air-gas mixture, creating a potential fire risk. The recall was announced April 28. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

The recall affects several models of Pentair Water Pool and Spa’s MasterTemp and Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm pool heaters manufactured between Dec. 22, 2020, and Jan. 6, 2021. To find out if yours has been recalled, check the manufacturing date and model number against this list. This information can be found on the serial number sticker on the heater.

According to the Sanford, N.C.-based manufacturer, the heaters were sold by pool equipment retailers nationwide at a price between $2,200 and $3,100. Additionally, 21 units were sold in Canada. The pool heaters were manufactured in the U.S.
